Thomas Whittemore, New East District Coordinator

Thomas Whittemore is the new East District Coordinator, replacing Jose Cervantes, who retired at the end of March, after 31 years working for the City.  Thomas has worked for the department of neighborhoods for nine years, serving as a Neighborhood Matching Fund project manager, Involving all Neighbors program manager, Planning Outreach Specialist and Acting District Coordinator for the Central and Greater Duwamish Districts.  The Neighborhood District Coordinator acts as a liaison between the general public and city officials. The East District includes the Capitol Hill, First Hill, Pike/Pine, Miller and Madison neighborhoods.

In an interview for the Capitol Hill blog, Thomas stated, “Part of my job as district coordinator is working with underrepresented populations, which is inspiring to me,” “I hope to bring that passion to the East district, no matter who the underrepresented are. My role is to bring community issues forward, not as an advocate, but as facilitator.”
