Capitol Hill, First Hill, Madison Valley, Madison Park, Denny-Blaine, Madrona and Montlake Neighborhoods winners in CleanScapes contest

These neighborhoods are located in CleanScapes Thursday collection area and are the winners of the 2009/2010 $50,000 Neighborhood Waste Reduction Rewards competition!

Residents in Thursday’s neighborhood collection area reduced their garbage, recycling and yard debris by 19% during the competition period and will receive a $50,000 community improvement project selected by the community and installed and maintained by CleanScapes.

During the first three months of the competition they produced an average of 177 tons of garbage, recycling and yard waste every week. By March they had reduced their weekly waste generation to an average of 142 tons per week. Click here to find out how much waste your neighborhood reduced!

We want your community project ideas!

Between now and July 31, Seattle residents have the opportunity to submit project ideas for construction in the Thursday collection area, which includes parts of Capitol Hill, First Hill, Madison Valley, Madison Park, Denny-Blaine, Madrona and Montlake. Projects should be improvements such as a public benches, playground equipment, neighborhood kiosks or community garden structures that will be accessible to the public.

The Project Selection Committee, consisting of representatives from Community Councils in the winning area, will choose the $50,000 improvement project(s).
