Interbay Giving Garden – Credit Tino Tran

Last year our P-Patch gardeners’ “green thumbs” grew 39,377 pounds of fresh organic produce for Seattle food banks and meal programs. These food donations came from the 52 P-Patch “giving gardens,” which are P-Patch plots dedicated to growing food for donation. In addition, a percentage of the total food donations came from individual P-Patch plots.

P-Patch gardeners volunteer to steward the giving gardens and handle the delivery of fresh produce over the growing season. The P-Patch program grew from 39 gardens participating last year to 52.

Here’s a quote from a Bitter Lake P-Patch gardener about last year’s harvest: “…we reached out to our immediate neighbors in the TriCourt Apartments, a SHA property directly across the street…Most, if not all, of the residents are regular food bank clients, so we thought we could make some of their food hyperlocal. We had a sharing day in July and again in August. It was so much fun to connect directly with everyone who came. We all talked about how we like to prepare our vegetables, and everyone was just delightful, and so appreciative.”
