The Seattle Department of Neighborhoods’ Hey Neighbor! series introduces you to the people behind the scenes working to build, strengthen, and engage the communities of Seattle.
Meet Karen Ko
Karen Ko has been a Community Engagement Coordinator (previously Neighborhood District Coordinator) with the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods (DON) for 24 years! Karen was born in the “Atomic City” (aka Richland, WA) and attended the University of Washington. Her first “real job” was Art Director at a camp on Vashon Island – though she still claims she knows nothing about art. Before coming to DON, she worked as a taxi driver in New York City, an organizer at Neighborhood House, a Community Services Coordinator in unincorporated South King County, and served as Director at Denise Louie Education Center. Karen is absolutely passionate about social justice, the Seattle First Hill Lions, the Seattle Sensory Garden, and BiBimBap!
