Come help dig garden beds at the new Bitter Lake P-Patch this Saturday, September 29 from 10 to 5 p.m. Here’s the rest of the scoop:

WHERE: The Bitterlake P-Patch, N 143rd & Linden Ave N (Map)

WHAT TO BRING: Work gloves, strong hoes (we really need hoes – they work very well for this hard soil) and shovels, hard rakes, soft rakes, garden digging forks.

WHAT ELSE TO BRING: Food to share, WATER, hat, sunblock.

Northgate students visit Haller Lake P-patch

Haller Lake P-Patch hosted Northgate Summer School on July 5. The 7-to-9-year-olds learned about P Patches, organic gardening, and toured the site. One big surprise for Haller Lake gardeners was how many youth commented that they love broccoli! Click here to view photos of the day.

Two Meetings for Neighborhood Plan Updates in March

We are updating the neighborhood plans in Rainier Beach and in Broadview/BitterLake/Haller Lake! It’s time to take a fresh look at those neighborhood plans. In the late 1990s, people worked together to create these plans, which are the communities’ plans to guide growth and change. Things have changed since 1999 when the plans were developed.

Is Broadview/Bitter Lake/Haller Lake or Rainier Beach your neighborhood? Then we want to hear from you. Come tell us what’s important to keep, what’s missing, and what needs attention. Together, let’s make these neighborhoods even better.

Be part of the conversation! There will be a series of community meetings to hear your suggestions on how to achieve your community’s vision. You will have the opportunity to help identify—and prioritize—goals and action steps for your neighborhood plan. The plan identifies actions that the community and the City should take to make your neighborhood a better place. You are the experts and your ideas will direct the work to update this important plan over the next year.

Deputy Mayor Smith and Councilmember O’Brien tour Bitter Lake Urban Village

Deputy Mayor Darryl Smith and City Councilmember Mike O’Brien joined local community members and stakeholders from the Broadview neighborhood in a walking tour of Linden and Aurora Aves between 130^th & 145 to learn more about the challenges and ideas for neighborhood planning in the Bitter Lake Urban Village. Broadview-Bitter Lake-Haller Lake, along with Rainier Beach, is to be the focus of neighborhood update efforts this year.
