The results are as follows: Sue-May Eng won Position #3 for a District business person, property owner or employee.  Candace Chin won Position #5 for an at-large position. New Board members Ms. Eng and Ms. Chin will begin their terms in December.                                                                                                                                         

The special character of the Chinatown International District is recognized and protected by city ordinance.  In 1973, the International Special Review District Board was created to preserve, protect and enhance the cultural, economic and historical qualities of the District.  The Board is composed of seven members — five elected by the Chinatown International District community and two appointed by the Mayor.  Board members’ terms are for two years and members may serve up to two consecutive terms.

The current board members are Ching Chan, Bill Lee (Chair), Rich Murakami, Julia Park, Martha Rogers, Marvin Rosete (Vice-chair), and Joann Ware.

The International Special Review District is coordinated by the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods Historic Preservation Program which is responsible for the designation and protection of more than 450 historic structures, sites, objects, and vessels, as well as eight historic districts located throughout the city.

The seven-member International Special Review District (ISRD) Board reviews façade alterations, signs, new construction, changes of use, and street improvements within the International Special Review District.  The goals of the board are to maintain architectural character, cultural heritage, social diversity, and through the use of historic preservation, enhance the economic climate in the International Special Review District.

Nominations closed Tuesday, October 23. Three candidates were nominated, and candidate information is provided below for each position. Brief candidate biographies will be available at the polling place on the day of the election.

Most people are aware of the November 6^th General Election, but did you also know there is an annual community-based election in the International Special Review District? On the third Tuesday each November eligible members of the Chinatown International District community cast ballots to elect candidates who will represent the neighborhood by serving on the International Special Review District Board.

The special character of the Chinatown/International District is recognized and protected by City Ordinance.  In 1973, the International Special Review District (ISRD) Board was created to preserve, protect and enhance the cultural, economic, and historical qualities of the area and, in particular, its unique Asian character.  The Board reviews both changes to individual businesses and changes that may impact the entire district.  To preserve this special character, the ISRD Board must review and approve all uses including use of the public sidewalks, new construction, and changes to building exteriors within the district, including signs or new paint colors or security gates, before installation or construction.

The community celebration will feature performances by the International School of Martial Arts lion dancers and the Morning Star Korean Cultural Center youth performance group.

This community driven park renovation revitalizes a loved neighborhood park!  The new park is inviting with open site lines and lots of usable space.  The old shelter has been restored with ample gathering and seating space. The play area offers new and varied play opportunities including drums! 

This park renovation was supported in part with $79,000 from the Neighborhood Matching Fund.
