Meet Fabiola Arvizu, our citywide Community Engagement Coordinator

Fabiola Arvizu is a recent addition to our Community Outreach and Engagement team. As a citywide Community Engagement Coordinator, she has been busy introducing Seattle residents to City staff and services and sharing opportunities for folks to engage in community efforts in their neighborhoods.

Get to know a little bit more about Fabiola below:

Where did you grow up?

The CD (Central District)

What neighborhood do you call home?

Hillman City

What makes your neighborhood special?

I love that it’s right along Rainier Ave S and draws great business owners and neighbors. I’ve met some wonderful people who care about Hillman City’s charm, affordability, and growing community ties. I’m a renter, like almost half of Seattle’s population, and I want to stay in Hillman City for as long as I can!

What did you do prior to joining the Department of Neighborhoods? What excited you about the work?

I worked in youth development prior to joining DON. I am inspired by the way local youth and young adults stand up for themselves and challenge societal norms. I want to always make room for young people and stay youth-oriented when engaging in community.

What made you want to work at the Department of Neighborhoods?

I chose to work at Neighborhoods because of the opportunity to work directly with people who make a difference in their local neighborhoods.

What’s your favorite place in Seattle?

It’s a three-way tie between Salvadorean Bakery (THE pupusa spot in White Center), the Ark Lodge Cinema in Columbia City, and Kubota Garden in Rainier Beach. My favorite day in Seattle would include a tasty pupusa lunch, a walk around Kubota Garden, and a movie at the Ark Lodge. I am a true South End girl.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about civic engagement, neighborhood empowerment, youth voices, and economic development for immigrant-, brown-, queer-, and black-owned businesses.
