Mittelstadt Mortuary/Ballard Blossom Building The annual election for the Ballard Avenue Landmark District (BLD) Board was held by mail with a ballot deadline of Dec. 12, 2023. Four positions were up for election. The results are as follows:
- John Cashman won Position #2 for Property Owner
- Philipp Koman won Position #3 for a Resident
- Tommy Patrick won Position #4 for Property Owner or Business Person
- David Brazeau won Position #7 for a Property Owner
The Ballard Avenue Landmark District is a nationally recognized historic district established in 1976 to commemorate the neighborhood’s unique place in Ballard’s history. To preserve its special character, the Ballard Avenue Landmark District Board reviews and approves all changes to building exteriors within the district before the changes are made, such as signs, awnings, window transparency, paint colors, street furniture and new construction.
The board has seven members. Five are elected by the community and two are appointed by the Mayor. Board members serve two-year terms. Additional information about the BLD can be found on the BLD website.
Seattle Department of Neighborhoods Historic Preservation Program is responsible for the designation and protection of more than 400 historic structures, sites, objects, and vessels, along with eight historic districts located throughout the city.
