The P-Patch Community Gardening program is spearheading a water saving contest. The goal is to get P-Patch gardeners to think creatively about how they can use less water as well as to save money by cutting water usage by 10% compared to last year. The contest began on June 1 and runs through the end of September. Prizes for water saving and creative solutions include gift certificates to a garden supply store, garden tools and a gardening manual. Hose bibs will have water saving tips attached as means of education and to remind gardeners to be mindful when watering their plants.
P-Patch Supervisor Rich Macdonald summed up the contest this way, “water conservation has always been a closely held value of our program. The water saving contest allows us to act on the value, engage the gardens in friendly competition, and to save money.” As the weather heats up, look for signage and fun water saving ideas in effect at your local P-Patch.
