Seattle Named Finalist in 2024 All-America City Award

The National Civic League has announced Seattle as one of the 20 finalists for the prestigious All-America City Award. This recognition highlights Seattle’s commitment to strengthening democracy through local action and innovation.

“We can and must strengthen our democracy so that it is resilient in the face of challenges and better serves all Americans. This year’s finalists aren’t waiting for federal action, they are innovating and acting locally to improve their communities for anyone who calls them home,” said Doug Linkhart, President of the National Civic League.

The All-America City Award, celebrating its 75th year, recognizes communities across the United States for their exemplary civic engagement. Cities were recognized for their impactful initiatives under this year’s theme “Strengthening Democracy through Local Action and Innovation.” Seattle joins a distinguished list of finalists, each selected for their demonstrated efforts in building strong civic participation.

Seattle’s inclusion among the finalists underscores the city’s commitment to shared vision, civic engagement, inclusiveness and equity, collaboration, innovation, and impact. Through community-driven initiatives, Seattle has shown its dedication to empowering residents and fostering meaningful participation in civic life.

“We are honored to be recognized as a finalist for the All-America City Award,” said Director Jenifer Chao, Director of the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods (DON). “This achievement is a testament to the dedication and resilience of our community members who strive to make Seattle a better place for all.”

This recognition reflects Seattle’s incredible work under Mayor Harrell and his vision for ‘One Seattle’. The award underscores the promising impact that this administration has already had on the city and its residents.

The All-America City Award Event and Competition will take place in Denver, CO from June 7-9, where finalist teams will present their innovative projects to a jury of civic leaders. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in workshops, panel discussions, and peer learning sessions, gaining insights and inspiration to drive change in their own communities.

As part of the celebration, DON will host a watch party in Seattle for the official presentation, where residents can join together to witness the presentation and announcement of this year’s winners.
