On Saturday, March 21, people of Seattle gathered in South Park for the first Best Day Ever event, a day of service, storytelling, shared meals, and community connection co-created by the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods and the Seattle Chamber of Connection and local partner Cultivate South Park. Best Day Ever is a community-powered celebration designed to strengthen civic belonging while spotlighting the people, small businesses, and cultural traditions that make Seattle’s neighborhoods unique.
Christie Robertson, a local community audio producer at Civic Sound Productions, attended the inaugural Best Day Ever event to capture the excitement of the day. Hear her conversations with event organizers, South Park locals, and participants from across the city – including many first-time visitors to the neighborhood – who ventured out to discover the hidden gems and vibrant culture of South Park. Listen to the powerful audio story below (English: 10 min 06 sec; Español: 13 min 48 sec).
