The Seattle Department of Neighborhoods’ Hey Neighbor! series introduces you to the people behind the scenes working to build, strengthen, and engage the communities of Seattle.
Meet Sandy Pernitz!
Sandy Pernitz has been working on the Seattle P-Patch Community Gardening Program team for the past 20 years. She graduated from Huxley School of the Environment with a degree in Human Geography and Environmental Policy and has a community organizing and social work background. Certified in Permaculture, she is interested in how community-based gardening transforms and connects the urban environment and the people in it. When not working on community gardening, she is a trained herbalist and grows many of the herbs she uses in her herbal salve business. She is married, lives in South Kitsap County and loves spending time with her dog Dixie and two cats, Louis and Percy.
