AANHPI Month: Ton Kiang Barbeque Noodle House

Opened in 2008, Ton Kiang Barbeque Noodle House is an anchor of delicious food and community in Seattle’s Chinatown. Owner and Master Chef Mr. Huang and his family and staff serve up chicken, duck, and pork barbequed in the traditional Chinese style; a wide variety of noodle, rice, and vegetable sides; and lunch plates to-go for hungry downtown workers and Chinatown residents. They’ve even been known to roast Thanksgiving turkeys for patrons who like skin perfectly crisped. Lillian Young, our Community Liaisons Project Manager, joined us to ask Mr. Huang a few questions about his business.

What is your favorite thing to eat at your own restaurant?

Everything! When I look at my menu, I only want things I like on it. If I don’t like it, I won’t make it.

What is the best part of owning your business?

Owning Ton Kiang and cooking food is a way for me to preserve and share my culture. I learned to cook from a master and doing this work means I get to share that legacy and keep my culture alive.
