Due to wildfires, we are expecting a smoky summer. Find out how to be safe and look out for folks who are sensitive to poor air quality.

Shop the Squeeze

Every week in 2019, we’re giving away $100 Visa and ORCA cards to shoppers who support small business! Enter the #ShoptheSqueeze contest in three simple steps: 1. Visit a small business in Belltown, Chinatown-ID, Little Saigon, Pioneer Square or Downtown Commercial Core using any transportation that isn’t driving by yourself. 2. Post on social media using #ShoptheSqueeze. 3. In the caption, tell us how you got there. To get involved and promote the contest to your customers, visit seattle.gov/shopthesqueeze, follow @seattleeconomy on social media, or contact wynn.barnard@seattle.gov.

Hing Hay Restroom

Seattle Parks & Recreation will create a single-use restroom and concierge station in the northeast area of the park in the basement of the Bush Hotel. The restroom will be open to the public when a concierge is present at the park. Planning and design is happening this summer. Expected completion: Summer 2021.

Slurry Seal on Maynard Ave S

Expect 1 day of road closure in August to seal Maynard Ave S, between S Dearborn St and S King St. Slurry seal is a protective coating that makes the pavement last longer and makes the road more pleasant to walk and drive on.

New Protected Bike Lanes

The south end connection of the Center City Bike Network will be built in September to connect people biking to the C/ID and make a connection between 2nd Ave and S Dearborn St. Expect a new protected bicycle lane on 2nd Ave Ext S, S Main St, and 5th Ave S north of S King St.

Waterfront Streetcar Stop Removal

The former streetcar station at 5th Ave S and S Jackson St will be removed, and a protected bike lane will be installed in the space.

Sounder South Capacity Expansion

Sound Transit is evaluating options to expand capacity on the popular Sounder South commuter rail line, which connects Lakewood and King Street Station in Seattle. Options include longer trains and additional weekday service. Learn more and provide your input during the online open house, September 10-24.

Expanded Transit Services

In September, King County Metro and the City of Seattle, through the voter-approved Seattle Transportation Benefit District, will add over 650 new weekly bus trips to provide more frequent all-day transit service, improved connections on nights and weekends, increased capacity on popular commute routes, and transit network improvements throughout Seattle.

Sound Transit – September Service Change

Starting on September 21, Sound Transit Express Route 554 will once again serve the C/ID neighborhood in the eastbound direction. It will stop at South Jackson Street and Maynard Avenue South.

SR 99 Tunnel Tolling

Tolling the SR 99 tunnel begins this fall. Toll rates will range from $1 to $2.25 with a Good To Go! pass. WSDOT is giving away free  Good To Go! passes at 99tunnel.com. Plan ahead for when tolling starts and expect changes in downtown traffic patterns.

Connect 2020

Heads up, Link light rail riders! For 10 weeks beginning January 2020, expect system-wide delays and platform changes at International District/Chinatown and Pioneer Square stations through March so crews can build light rail connections to the Eastside. Riders traveling  through Pioneer Square station will transfer between trains on a new, temporary center platform.

S Jackson St Sidewalk Expansion

The sidewalk will be widened on the north side of S Jackson St between 2nd Ave Ext S and 4th Ave S. The curb ramps will be replaced.
